How many partners?

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

A national newspaper is looking to interview a woman in her early 20s who’s had a lot more sexual partners than her mum.

The mother was probably a child of the Swinging 60s, but a poll has shown that the majority of women of that generation probably only had a couple of partners before  the age of 24.

Today’s early 20-somethings have had nearly five times that number.  Both would need to be photographed and talk about their attitudes to sex.

Snapshots from My Daughter Grew Another Head . . .

Friday, March 5th, 2010

epstein-cutting-edge5epstein-cutting-edge9epstein-cutting-edge3epstein-cutting-edge7epstein-cutting-edge4epstein-cutting-edge2The many faces of Angela as she appears on that programme we keep going on about (available here if you missed it). Much better than Tuesday’s attempt by the BBC to do exactly the same thing, and not just because it had SellThatStory.  We didn’t mind the gently mocking narrator and the arty camerawork.  We felt it was an honest account. And the fact that the daughter who grew another head - who gave the programme its title – barely appeared was both clever and ironic.  After all, as the programme made clear, sometimes the headline is stronger than the story.

Miracle marigolds saved my sight

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

macularAs a retired optician Harry Marsland knew that the eye condition he had meant only one thing: He would lose his sight.

Every single eye expert was in agreement.  What he had – age-related dry macular degeneration – was untreatable.

And yet Harry, 73, is adamant that he has proved them wrong – and that an extraxt from marigolds has restored his vision to near-perfect.

Before he started taking the tablets he needed his wife to guide him as he walked in the dark.  Now he can drive a car.

If you’ve defied the docs, if you believe you’re a medical miracle, we want to hear from you.  Harry’s story was in the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Express this week.

Holding_handsSeems love is in the air, as lots of newspapers and magazines are looking for stories about relationships this week.

Trapped in a coma for 23 years

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Once in a while there’s a story so amazing that it goes worldwide.

It doesn’t matter where it happened because nobody on the planet could read it and fail to react.

The story of car crash victim Rom Houben is a perfect example.

For 23 year doctors were convinced he was in a coma.

In truth he was completely conscious.  He was totally paralysed but he his brain was unaffected, he could see, he could hear.

“I screamed, but there was nothing to hear,” he told German magazine Der Spiegel.

Medics finally realised he wasn’t in a persistent vegetative state after all.

Now he can communicate with a specially-adapted computer and he says he feels like he’s been re-born.
